Rocky McDonald Wins in North Carolina
The Johnsonville Brats/ Jerome Davis Challenge's top spot went to Mexico cowboy Rocky McDonald. Rocky was one of just four cowboys to put up three scores over the two day event. In the first go round he topped Ned Pepper from Rafter G Rodeo Co. for 85.25, tying Sean Willingham on Thunder River for 6/7. Rocky (Thrilville) then tied with Kody Lostroh (Nervous Waters) for first in the second go, each putting up scores of 87.00. Rocky then topped Diamond S Bucking Bulls' Shanghai for 89.25. Those three rides were enough to get him the top position over world number one Guilherme Marchi who took second, Ross Coleman (currently sitting in 9th overall), and rookie sensation Kasey Hayes, who despite having only competed in three events this season, is already ranked 44th and won his first ever event. Kody Lostroh rounded out the top five with an overall score of 177.0 on two. The high marked ride of the weekend ended up being a tie between Lostroh and Coleman, who rode Black Smoke and Mossy Oak Mudslinger, both of Page and Teague Bucking Bulls, respectively for 90.00 in the short go.
